Jackie's Take: What's On My Mind in Women's Wellness ✍️

You woke up this morning, checked your reflection, and thought, "OK, my tummy's looking pretty good today!"

Then you ate something and…

This used to happen around your period, but now it's nearly a daily occurrence that gets even worse before your period.

You're doing all the hacks you see on Instagram... Exercising daily. Eating before 7 PM. Cutting out all the carbs. Taking probiotics. And yet, nothing is really changing.

That's because it isn't just about what you eat or when you eat.

There are real, biological changes going on that make this happen.

And I've got 6 real-world tactics to help get it under control for you πŸ‘‡

If you're starting HRT and experiencing bloating, be sure to read this one.

Clinician's Corner 🩺

Have you ever had a patient come in with some far-fetched idea that they clearly got from an influencer's 34-second video and thought, "There should be a better voice in this space?"

Well, there should be. And, {{first_name|friend}}, I think it should be yours.

Having a personal brand as a clinician isn't about vanity. It's not about dancing on camera. Or even about followers.

It's about distributing accurate information that competes with fear-bait.

It's about leaving your practice and going home to be with your family promptly at quitting time (because a little extra money in your pocket means you just move differently through your day).

It's about finally being recognized for your genius. Landing that speaking gig. Getting brand deals and equity partnerships. Finding your voice.

I laid out the steps I took from exam room to successful online brand in The Clinician's Ladder.

I have a huge favor this week. I'm trying to sort out if you're reading this newsletter as a clinician too.

It would help me so much, and help make sure you only get relevant updates, if you could tell me:

Thank you SO much for your help with this! I appreciate you SO much!

The LAiDY Edit πŸ€–

Here's a job I'd hand to AI this week: closing your fiber gap.

Most women aren't close. The average woman eats about 15 grams of fiber a day, and only about 1 in 10 of us hit the official 25-gram target. I push my patients toward 30 grams, because in midlife fiber is doing double duty: it keeps your gut moving, feeds the bacteria that help regulate your hormones, and steadies blood sugar and cholesterol while it's at it.

The problem usually isn't willpower, it's math. Counting fiber by hand is tedious, so hand it to the machine:

❝

"Here's everything I ate yesterday: [list it out]. Add up my total fiber in grams, tell me how far I am from 30, and give me three easy swaps or additions to close the gap using normal food, not supplements."

Run it on two or three real days, and you'll see your actual number, which is almost always lower than it feels.

One caution: ramp fiber up slowly and drink more water while you do, or you'll trade one kind of bloat for another. If you have a gut condition, clear big changes with your provider first.

Worth the Click πŸ”—

On the Cleveland Clinic's Butts and Guts podcast, they have an episode on digestive changes in menopause that's worth your time. The line that stuck with me: perimenopause and menopause can stretch to 10 years.

That's a very long time to be dealing with wayward digestion and buying flowy shirts.

The Find πŸ›οΈ

Not to harp on about fiber, but it really is that girl when it comes to midlife.

And fiber's BFF, without a doubt, is hy-dra-tion.

Find yourself a water bottle that makes you excited to fill up. Drink. Repeat.

Look for:

  • A size that means one or two refills instead of eight

  • A lid you'll actually drink from (a straw if you sip, a chug spout if you gulp)

  • Insulated stainless if you want it cold all day

Skip the ones so big they're a workout to haul around and won't fit in the cup holder.
